The River

This conservation area is one of the most pristine in all of the Amazon.

Recently, together with our partners, we have been honored to receive the first ever sportfishing operation license given for a territory with this classification. The result is a fishery that has absolutely no human presence, leaving this entire river and the surrounding area only for our guests. This is a truly wild place, a haven were animals roam undisturbed and react as they have never seen a human before. The landscape is breath-taking, having some hills in the surrounding area, very tall primary jungle and a beautiful, rocky, clear running river. The setting is quite special for a legendary fishing adventure!

CONSERVATION AREA

There are many rivers in the Brazilian Amazon with good fishing, but not many with the plethora of species and quantity of quality specimens as the Rio Dos Sonhos. What is even more special, is the rare condition of being completely devoid of human presence. This unique river, a small tributary in the Xingu River basin, is particular in that its morphology allows for sight-fishing from the boat or off the boat on foot. Depending on their fitness level, anglers are able to decide when to fish from the boat or hop off and get more adventurous. Fishing the river by foot, either wet wading or hopping from boulder to boulder, is an exciting way to explore the shallow pocket water and runs that are common on the river.

There are rapids, riffles, and back eddies that hold big predators waiting to attack baitfish in the shallows or on the surface. Small waterways that branch out from the main river, reminiscent of small trout streams, present different fishing scenarios and a diverse and more intimate experience with the river, fish and the ubiquitous wildlife around you.

Fishing

Streamers, clousers, dry flies, poppers, in a variety of colors and sizes will work amazing in these waters. The fish are so close together that in one day of fishing it isn’t uncommon to only cover 3km of water. While there are situations in which you will need a long distance and accurate cast, for the most part your casts will not need to be farther than 8m-10m away! Since we only fish the most prime weeks in the season and we keep the place closed the rest of the year, fish are so unpressured that they do not spook easily and are eager to take your flies without much trepidation. To maintain and reduce pressure on the fishery, at Amazon Eden Lodge, we use quad-bikes and custom built trailers to transport you and your gear via trails cut through the jungle. This will bring you to your starting point and then pick you up at the end of your designated beat for the day. These small trails that we use are cut alongside the river, both upriver and downriver from the lodge, for several kilometers. Along these trails are the entry points to the river which we use to spread out our anglers across many kilometers of water faster and more efficiently without negatively affecting the delicate ecosystem in the river. The cherry on the cake is that you often see wildlife crossing these trails and could mean a close encounter with a tapir or a jaguar as the week goes on. Every entry point along the river will be several kilometers apart, and where your boat and guide will be
ready to go fishing with you and your fishing partner for the day. The boat will only be used to fish your beat, and never to transport you back, reducing the boat traffic and unwanted pressure on the water that other anglers will fish in the coming days. The river, its structure, and the landscape in general with its tall primary jungle and hills
are quite the backdrop for this world class fishing adventure, adding to the overall experience.
